I attended SyneRBI’s AIRBI workshop in London, about AI and reconstruction for biomedical imaging. The workshop was very PET focused, I liked it a lot: I learned many things from people that are more on the application side of things. I saw awesome images of full-body PET scanners by the team of Jinyi Qi, clearly felt like the future was there. The visualizations were simply amazing: 3D full-body dynamic scans, meaning you could see the radiotracer spreading in the patient’s body from the injection point. I was eager for the talk of Hyungjin Chung but actually it was a bit disappointing. It didn’t really feel like he was putting his work into perspectives, more like a salespeech: the methods and images were nice though ! The talk of Georg Schramm on AI for image reconstruction, from the point of view of regulators, was amazing. This guy does everything it’s incredible: coding, math, applications, and now even regulation !
There I met another Bregman fanboy, Martin Benning ! He actually also worked on PET and MLEM during his PhD, and now he’s more interested in applying Bregman divergences to neural networks, so not that close to what I’m doing, but still funny. He was very friendly, hope to meet him again at some point !
